He controlled his breathing as best he could and did his best to curtail his shivering, but spending long minutes hidden amongst snow without activity to bring warmth to his blood made that effort rather difficult.
He would move but while the chances that he’d be caught were dismal when he presented a stationary target they became much more miserable were he to move and betray his position.
He could only delay the inevitable, he knew.
He wondered whether it might not be wiser to lose gracefully so that they might return indoors for hot drink and food and roaring fires.
He dismissed the thought as unworthy, though he had to do so with some reluctance, the possibility of warmth did not outweigh the bleak future that awaited him if he were to be caught so soon.
As soon as he made the decision he became aware of the fact that he’d been discovered. It was a foolish move, he knew, but he did so anyway. He ran.
A laughing Legolas tackled him neatly, pinning him to the icy bed of snow.
He barely managed to catch a glimpse of shining eyes, feel the fleeting touch of frost kissed lips across his own, before he was left panting and alone.
“You are seeker now, Estel!” Legolas called teasingly.
Estel grinned with anticipation, his blood warming with the challenge. After all, he’d always excelled at pursuing and capturing his prey.
