Day 24/25: Dinner and a Show

Merry Christmas!

The surprise. I knew this would happen (I'd miss the 24th because of family, Christmas stuff). So, my gift to myself is a day off. Here's Day 24th's offering. Enjoy!

Title: Dinner and a Show
Author: Lady Yueh
Fandom: House M.D.

Character(s): Gregory House. James Wilson
Date: December 24/25
Author’s Notes: Response for [livejournal.com profile] souleswanderer's prompt.
--------

House looked behind Wilson as if he was expecting someone else.

“Do you have a date?” Wilson teased lightly.

House limped back to his piano. “On Christmas Eve?” he scoffed. “You know you’re the only girl in my life, Jimmy. Besides, I’m waiting for something better.”

“Oh?” Wilson prompted as he slipped off his winter coat.

There came a knock on the door.

“Get the door.”

Wilson, expecting nothing more from House, did so.

“36.87,” said the bored delivery boy.

“Of course,” Wilson sighed without surprise. He went for his wallet when House’s voice stopped him.

“Ah ah ah! You’re late,” House accused.

“You’re not getting a discount,” the guy said promptly.

Wilson, with his knowledge of the inner workings of House’s devious mind, knew that whatever House was up to it wasn’t something as plebian as a discount (or at least not simply a discount).

“Then?”

Wilson had found that, as long as it wasn’t aimed at him, House’s devious smile was always an indicator of impending entertainment.

He was right.

Wilson watched in a state of impressed and bemused awe as House bullied the delivery boy into agreeing to provide an off-key rendition of “Joy to the World.”

Wilson paid the mortified boy and took the cooling Chinese. “I thought you hated carolers?”

“I do,” House asserted. “They’re a freakish and utterly evil mutation of humanity. That wasn’t a caroler, that was a humiliated teenager whose predicament brought me much joy. Plus, I had earplugs.”

“You are truly a sick and twisted individual,” Wilson commented with concealed admiration.

“I know,” House preened.
