kerravonsen her request and hope that, despite its brevity, it fills her with some holiday joy.

Dr. Robert Chase had finished with the immediate/priority cases that had been sent his way because of the massive interstate accident.
The patients had slowed to a trickle and they were down to the green. He’d been at this for hours and could finally sit, breathe and recuperate without worrying about people dying if he took the smallest of pauses.
“Not the way you wanted to spend your Christmas, I’m guessing.”
Chase looked up to see a blood-splattered blonde seated across from him. The doctor in him wanted to jump up and start examining her for injuries while the pragmatist said that she’d hardly be chatting him up if she were severely injured. Then again, you never knew with blondes his cynical voice commented. He was amused until he realized he qualified as a blond.
“Not really,” he answered with a tired smile. “But then you probably didn’t either.”
“I’ve had worse Christmases,” she confided.
“Really?” He arched an eyebrow in question. “Those must have been some horrific holidays.”
“Yep,” she smiled a fake, bright smile. “Lots of death and destruction. The usual.”
He laughed politely.
“But I was home, with family and that made it better ya know?” Her far-off look made him want to groan. He was a doctor not a bloody psychiatrist! (Or Cameron.) It was situations like this that made him envy House. You never saw House get pestered by random strangers (at least, not for long).
“Buffy!” A loud voice carried in the near silent hall.
“Jack!” the blonde (Buffy? Really?) brightened and somehow managed to look as innocent as freshly driven snow despite her bedraggled appearance. She was good. “What are you doing here, old man?”
“Let’s go, Summers. Don't give me that look, I invented that look, and you’re in trouble. How many times have I told you to look after my archaeologist? And then you go and break him. On Christmas, no less!”
“Daniel’s fine. He’s just getting a few stitches. He’s had worse when you were taking care of him. Later, Doctor!” the blonde waved absently as she and the bickering older man made their way to one of the exam rooms.
Chase shook his head. For all her melancholy, it looked like the blonde was surrounded by friends this Christmas as well; even if she didn’t recognize it.
