Severus Snape looked down at the bright, carefully wrapped package that was being offered to him.
“Severus?” Lily urged.
He forced his hands not to shake and ruthlessly clamped down the tears that threatened to rise as he took the gift.
“Why did you--”
“Christmas is for giving,” Lily interrupted with a smile.
Hope is the thing with feathers.
He would never admit to reading poetry.
But hope was fluttering in his chest.
Hope was Lily’s shining smile and her sparkling eyes.
