Jareth paused in his narrative with that look that said there was someone in his Labyrinth who should not be there.
A malicious smirk appeared on his face.
“Take care of Rose while I deal with the nuisance. Thank you, dear.”
Then he was gone.
In his place was a ranting blonde.
“Jareth! Get back here, you git!”
“Rose.”
The woman turned with surprise.
“Well, you’re not Jareth. Sarah, right? Nice to finally meet you. I’m Rose.”
Sarah was used to more than a little oddness in her life but this wasn’t odd this was suspicious. An attractive woman who was acquainted with Jareth and yet never spoken of? This did not paint an attractive scene.
But she had grown out of her brat-phase.
Mostly.
“Hello, Rose. Yes, I am Sarah. How did you know? And who are you?”
Rose frowned.
“He’s as bad as mine! Jareth barely mentioned me jus’ now, didn’t he? Just popped me in?”
Sarah nodded with a frown of her own.
“I met ‘im a couple of years ago. Came to visit for tea a few times after The Doctor finished the labyrinth. Of course, now the two can’t stop competing! The Doctor says the labyrinth is easy so Jareth has to prove 'im wrong and they won't stop! So, I’ve been stuck up here for hours with nothing but goblins the last few times. And when they do finally finish they can’t stand to be in the same room without arguing! S’wonderful that he’s finally got you. We can chat over tea while those two face oubliettes, bogs and riddles.”
“You’re his friend?” Sarah questioned with no little surprise.
Rose nodded. “No competition from me for that one. Don’t need a goblin king when I have a time lord to keep in line, do I? And Jareth is completely smitten with you. Couldn’t stop raving about you when we first met. ‘Course, I told ‘im he should try again when you were a bit older and not to threaten you or your family. Suppose it worked,” she finished with a pleased smile.
At that, Sarah was won over and convinced.
“Is there anything else I should know?” she asked with a conspiratorial smile.
Rose grinned. “Blackmail? I have loads of it.”
“I think you and I will be great friends.”
“And Jareth will be sorry he left us alone?”
“That too.”
