It had been one of those things, the Doctor realised upon reflection, that came under the Great Big Threatening Button That Should Never Ever Be Pressed category.
"Er...oops?" The Doctor offered his companion a sheepish smile that would cause even the most hard-hearted of sentient beings to be utterly charmed and forgive him.
Unfortunately, it was not so with this companion. He could do charming and endearing in a pinch but in this aspect she surpassed him. She was a master. With a grin and a fluttering of her lashes she'd have anyone hanging onto her words, eating out of her hands, committing suicidal feats of heroism (like meeting her mother), indulging her in her silly whims, or all of the above and liking it.
Rose saw right through him.
"Oops?" she hissed. "Oops?!"
"Bit of situation. Nothing to worry about!" He was readying himself to launch into a long rambling babble that would leave her eyes glazed and this incident forgotten when she cut him off with a single glare.
"You press the Universal Reset Button AND ALL YOU CAN SAY IS OOPS?!"
"Well, it wasn't my fault! It wasn't properly labeled. How was I to know that pushing that button would undo all of existence? And who creates a button for the single purpose of undoing existence as we know it, I ask you? And if that wasn't enough, who had the bright idea to make it so big, red and glowy? It was begging to be pushed!"
Rose was not budging. In fact, she was looking rather--well, he'd say homicidal but he wasn't homo sapiens was he?--genocidal.
The Doctor did the only thing he could to throw Rose off track and maybe save himself a regeneration or a dozen.
He kissed her.
She bit him.
And not in the fun way.
He let out a pained whimper and tried to soothe his poor, abused lip.
"Fix it," she demanded as she raised a hand.
For incentive purposes only, of course.
The Doctor hurried to obey.

Date: 2008-01-21 03:34 am (UTC)And I love, love the whole paragraph about how the button was just begging to be pushed.
The Doctor has a problem, though he might not admit it. He's like a friggin magpie, the shiny stuff attracts him like a moth to a flame. It's a compulsion. Rose has her hands full with that one. Pushing buttons left and right, tsk tsk.

Now I have the image of Ten flitting about and cooing over sparkly stuff.

Date: 2008-01-21 04:34 am (UTC)Poor, poor Doctor. Does he have any idea that he's been thoroughly domesticated? XD

Date: 2008-01-21 05:06 am (UTC)She does, doesn't she?
Does he have any idea that he's been thoroughly domesticated?
He has an inkling but is in complete denial and wishes that no one would point out this fact. Bad for his image/ego.
