Title: Forbidden Fairytale (Instrumental Mix)
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
Type: Fanmix
For: [livejournal.com profile] nabichansaotome
Prompt: "forbidden love"
Notes: For: The Dean/Castiel Co-Op Swap. I really tried to get that sad, forbidden love thing going on and it works if you just listen to the mix. But, the story I added here sort of cancels it out. If you just want sad romance-y stuff download and listen. If you'd like something a bit more amusing/happy-ending-ish read the story.

1. Un Cuento (A Tale)//Javier Navarette

What is it? What are you doing here? What do you want? A story? Aren’t you a little to old for that? Good answer. Fine, I suppose I can take time out of my excessively busy schedule to pander to your every whim. Why, yes, that was sarcasm.

Now, once upon--what? You want a love story? Where do you think you are? I don’t take requests. Though you’re in luck because the story I’d already chosen happens to have some of that romance non-sense. Remember, no giggling. That goes for you too, young man.

Now, where was I? Oh, yes. Once upon a time…

2. Adagio for Strings//Platoon

there was a young man. And this young man--his name? What do you need his name for? Don’t you read Shakespeare? Names don’t matter. I can call him Jane if I like, but I won’t because it’ll just get you confused with that other boy named Jane.

Anyway, this young man was not a normal young man. He lived a life full of fighting and grief. His family was one of hunters and warriors and their duty was to keep the monsters at bay. You can thank them for slaying that monster under your bed and the one in the closet, by the way.

Their lives were brutal and violent. At the end of the day all they had was each other, but the young man’s father died and his brother soon after, all because of the family’s enemy, a devious demon that baited them at every turn.

The young man, heartbroken and desolate, made a deal. He sold his soul for the life his beloved brother and twelve months of life thereafter. Which is a stupid thing to and I’ll smack you myself if you even think of doing any such thing.

Well, you can imagine the younger brother’s anguish at the news that his brother had damned himself for his sake.

They tried. For 364 days, they battles beasts and sought out an answer to break the hellish deal.

All to no avail.

On the 365th day, our young hero was dragged into hell.

3. Frozen Angels//Zoe Keating

But all was not lost.

As our hero languished in hell, subject to all the atrocities and tortures the denizens of hell could think of, garrisons of angels were given a command.

Heaven wanted the hero free.

Now, angels are beings of great and ferocious might and grace. Do not mistake them with those silly ideas of cuddly babies.

[Remember, they are warriors, fierce and sharp. They are like beautiful ice filled with the molten spark of divine love and wrath. They do not feel as we do, their love is not like ours.]

The army descended into the depths to fulfill their orders.

It was a single angel that came upon our hero to raise him from perdition and at that moment, when angelic grace mingled with human soul, something changed.

4. Angel//Vindaloo String Quartet

The hero was alive once again and rendered whole, but this was not a happy ending. You see, the hero’s actions had set in motion a grievous event. The Apocalypse was nigh.

The angel was given charge of the hero, it was his duty to ready him for the challenge to come.

5. Destiny//Bear McCreary

It was the hero’s destiny, as it so often is. He was a child of prophecy, the only one could stop the coming Apocalypse.

And so they fought. Side by side, apart, but most often each other. The angel and the hero did not agree on many things.

They were two very different beings, but little by little they began to understand each other.

6. Fly//Ludovico Einaudi

Little by little, their trust in each other, their faith in the other, grew. It began as a tiny bird that eventually took flight, rising higher and higher.

7. Passacaglia//Bear McCreary

But that was only the beginning.

Their bond was tested again and again.

They faced grave dangers, demons and betrayal.

And finally, they came to see…

There was love.

8. Inara's Suite//Greg Edmonson

[Dean]

9. Evenstar//Isabel Bayrakdarian

[Castiel]

10. Ampata's Kiss//Christophe Beck

A lot of people say that love will conquer all and that all love is beautiful. And it’s those same people that’ll get starry eyed and stupid at the idea of an epic romance between an angel and a human. Idiots.

That kind of love was forbidden between an angel and a human. It was deadly for both of them. They both knew it was impossible and so they tried to ignore it because they were afraid for the other.

11. Doomsday//Murray Gold

The thing about love is that you can’t tell it what to do.

They tried, but their love just grew stronger and it became more difficult to keep their distance.

So, the angel did the only thing he could to save the hero--hoping it would be enough, he left.

It was painful for them both.

Forbidden love always is.

12. Are You There?//Mono

The hero called for his angel so many times, cried and ranted to the heavens.

Because it wasn’t just about love--there was an apocalypse going on, remember? And the hero? Separation made him realize a couple of things. There were revelations of the embarrassingly mushy kind and he wasn’t too concerned with rules anymore. He’d been to hell, after all.

13. Remember Me As A Time of Day//Explosions in the Sky

The angel was still around. Sneaky bastard looked in on the hero from afar, making sure not to get caught. And though he wished the hero would move on, that he’d make the angel just another fond memory, he couldn’t help the fuzzy lovey-dovey feelings when the hero did no such thing.

14. Over It//Tori Amos

It became this ridiculous pretense where the angel and the hero pretended not to love each other as much as they did and only the stupid believed it.

Thankfully, there were a lot of stupid people (and by people I mean angels) around.

15. Eloi//Geoff Zanelli/Klaus Badelt

Of course, it couldn’t last. The Apocalypse was less nigh and more now and everything was going to hell, literally--hey, isn’t it your bedtime? All right, calm down. I’m just about done anyway.

Look, it ended like these things tend to. There was this long, unnecessary battle with lots of death and destruction of property until it the bad guys got their butts whooped. How? Well, let’s just say this is the kind of situation that the term deus ex machina was made for.

Why are you asking if you already know the answer? Yes, the angel and the hero lived happily ever after. (Though, it was only after that they found out that God was just waiting for them to ask, which just goes to show that being in love makes you stupid.)
